22 Jan 2025
The Central Moneymarkets Unit (CMU) has supported more digitally native bond issuances in multiple currencies by the private sector in Hong Kong. Through the CMU, Huafa 2024 I Company Limited successfully issued their 3-year digitally native bonds with issue size of RMB 1.4 billion on 23 December 2024. This was the first corporate entity digital bond issued in Hong Kong.

On 17 January 2025, the Bank of Communications Co., Ltd. Hong Kong Branch also successfully issued their 3-year digitally native notes with issue size of US$ 300 million. These digitally native notes were the first issued in a floating rate format and the first adopting a conventional bond execution style.

These issuances signify a huge step forward in the development of digital bond market in Hong Kong. The CMU will continue to support various institutions in expanding digital bond issuance in Hong Kong.
