Successful launch of direct linkage between Central Moneymarkets Unit of Hong Kong and Central Securities Depository System of Macao
The direct linkage between the Central Moneymarkets Unit (CMU) operated by CMU OmniClear Limited (CMU OmniClear) and the central securities depository (CSD) operated by Macao Central Securities Depository and Clearing Limited (a wholly owned subsidiary of the Monetary Authority of Macao), has successfully launched today (21 January) and was actively participated by financial institutions in both markets. The launch ceremony was also concluded successfully today with representation from the governments, financial institutions and industry service providers from Macao and Hong Kong.
On the first day of the launch, four renminbi- and US dollar-denominated bonds issued in Macao, with total issuance size of MOP 3.2 billion equivalent, were successfully settled by CMU Members in Hong Kong via the direct linkage. A total of 18 transactions on debt securities lodged with the CMU and the CSD in Macao were successfully completed by members from both CSDs utilising the direct linkage.
CMU OmniClear is pleased to facilitate cross-border investments and strengthen the financial cooperation and development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. We will continue to explore further connectivity with various financial markets to develop the CMU into an international CSD in Asia.
