The CMU supported the first private sector digitally native notes issued in Hong Kong
The Central Moneymarkets Unit (CMU) on 26 September 2024 successfully supported the issuance of the first private sector digitally native notes (the DN Notes) in Hong Kong. The DN Notes were issued by the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporate Limited (HSBC) with issuance size of HK$ 1 billion.
The DN Notes are issued in dematerialised registered form and recorded, cleared and settled in the CMU using HSBC Orion as the digital assets platform. The issuance has again demonstrated the CMU’s capability to provide post-trade services for digital bonds and the CMU’s determination in driving Fintech application in the securities markets.
The CMU will continue to collaborate with market participants to encourage wider applications of distributed ledger technology (DLT) and to drive innovation in the bond markets.
